Undergraduate Programmes

The aim of our undergraduate programmes is to develop the creative abilities of the individual student. In the early stages you will acquire the skills to enable you to progress to the self-directed learning which underpins all our programmes. Drawing and the communication of ideas, concepts and knowledge using visual methods is at the heart of our learning and teaching. Although the majority of studies are studio based, all students undertake historical and theoretical studies which contextualise their studio work. You will therefore acquire a range of transferable skills which will be of benefit to you in whatever path you choose to follow at the end of your studies. In the third year of your programme you will have the opportunity to take part in international exchanges including North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. The annual degree exhibition is an opportunity for family, friends and the public to see the work of all our graduating students.

Students come to study at DJCAD from a range of backgrounds, direct from school or further education colleges, changing careers or simply to enhance their knowledge of art and design. Twenty-four percent of our students are classed as mature and nine per cent are from overseas, which results in a stimulating learning environment. Our Honours programmes last for four years, the first year of which is the equivalent of the English Foundation year. We welcome applications from students who have completed a BTec Foundation course, an HNC/HND or equivalent for entry to second or subsequent years of the programme

Above all we want you to have a successful, challenging, rewarding and enjoyable time at DJCAD - other students have! "There is a helpfulness between students which makes for a unique and exciting culture at DJCAD. Staff support has been remarkable in helping pull projects together."
